As part of our Meet the Team series, we’re catching up with Operations & Design Manager Aimee Johnston to learn more about her background, what inspires her, and life outside of the studio.

Aimee, can you tell us a bit about your background and what led you to this role at Mesh Direct?

Aimee Johnston: I’ve always been drawn to the creative side of things, and when I discovered graphic design, it just clicked—I knew it was a path I wanted to explore. Since then, I’ve spent the last five years in the printing and signage industry, gaining hands-on experience and learning a lot along the way. Joining Mesh Direct has been a great next chapter—it’s allowed me to continue doing what I love while working with a great team and on exciting projects.

What aspects of working at Mesh Direct have you enjoyed the most so far?

Aimee Johnston: What I’ve enjoyed most about working at Mesh Direct is the variety. Our clients come from a wide range of industries and professions, each with their own unique needs and often fast turnaround times. It keeps the work dynamic and interesting—no two projects are ever the same. On top of that, getting to work alongside such a supportive and talented team really adds to the experience.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Aimee Johnston: In my free time, I love getting lost in a good book, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, and catching up with friends and family. I’m also a big fan of dining out—whether it’s a cozy local spot or somewhere new and exciting, I’m always up for discovering great food.

Any local favourites when it comes to restaurants or bars?

Aimee Johnston: A recent favourite of mine is Una Volta—the food and wine were absolutely amazing. It has such a cozy, welcoming vibe. As well as the many great pubs Newcastle has to offer, there’s definitely more than enough to choose from!

We hear you have a cat named Daphne—can you tell us a bit about Daphne?

Aimee Johnston: Daphne is my very large (and very hungry) cat—honestly, she eats like she’s representing Australia in a competition. She insists on either sitting on me or directly on my keyboard at all times, and she’s incredibly talkative, making her a very effective (and early) alarm clock. She’s super friendly, and her tail is always doing a little shimmy—it’s like her own signature move.

We’re glad to have you on the team, Aimee.

Aimee Johnston: Happy to be part of a great team!
