The Mesh Direct team loves vinyl projects where they get to flex their design, technical and problem-solving muscles, and this unique project for the Department of Premier and Cabinet was just such an opportunity! In January, they asked Mesh Direct to create innovative signage solutions for Australia Day 2020, one of the nation’s favourite celebrations. Not only was this project a highly stimulating and engaging challenge, but also a fantastic opportunity to be a part of Australia’s cultural identity.

The Challenge

This project was wonderfully mixed, with a variety of surfaces and factors to consider when designing the prints and choosing substrates. There was a floating barge to wrap, triffids to cover and a 6x12m floor decal to install!

The Products

Mesh Direct printed the barge-wrap on PVC vinyl, with special added cuts and pockets so that weights could be added. This guaranteed the wrap was securely in place, allowing it to resist weather and water while looking fabulous! The solid PVC was the perfect substrate to create a bright, bold and eye-catching print.

The triffids were wrapped in self-adhesive vinyl, an easy-to-install material that allows for clear and vivid prints. The important information stood out and was easy to read, ensuring visitors had the smoothest experience possible.

Mesh Direct installed the huge floor decal in the cruise terminal, using a similar product to the triffid stickers. This particular substrate is easily removable and leaves no residue, but provides a bold, bright and durable print while it’s in place. The install was a little tricky, though: the decal had to be perfectly lined up before placement. Needless to say, our installation team nailed it.

The Result

All of the prints looked amazing once they were finished! The bright colours, helpful information and fun and engaging designs became an integral part of the spirit of Australia Day. We can’t wait for next year!
