The Project

In November and December 2023, Mesh Direct partnered with the Beyond the Valley Festival team to create a visually stunning experience for the festival’s Main Stage with Event Mesh. The project aimed to captivate audiences with unique and dynamic banners that could be viewed from all angles in the crowd. The result was nothing short of spectacular, showcasing the creative capabilities of our signage products and the technical expertise of the Mesh Direct team.

The Challenge

Creating an unforgettable visual for the Main Stage at Beyond the Valley presented several challenges. Firstly, the banners needed to be visible from all angles, leaving no room for unprinted surfaces. Then, the stage’s location exposed the banners to high winds, demanding exceptional durability and stability.

The design required was a complex arched shape, much larger than the capacity of any available printing machine. Each banner featured subtle red shading, with every piece being unique, meaning precise colour control was required.

The project’s timeline was also extremely tight (as it is for many of our event clients), requiring delivery of the banners in sync with the client’s bump-in schedule. Lastly, the double-sided printing posed challenges related to heat welding large banners without compromising the quality.

The Product

With all of these challenges in mind, the Mesh Direct team decided Premium Fire Rated Banner Mesh was the product for the job. This kind of mesh was ideal due to its durability, safety features, and excellent print quality. A great all-rounder which lent itself perfectly to the requirements of this project.

The Solution

Mesh Direct implemented a series of innovative solutions to overcome the project’s complexities, including:

  1. Creating 27 individual banners which were pieced together to create the end result.
  2. Each of the 27 banners was designed as a two-piece unit to minimise wastage and achieve the required bespoke sizing.
  3. Precise calibration of printer colour systems ensured perfect colour matching across all banners.
  4. Double-sided printing was performed with meticulous colour control to prevent colour bleeding from one side to the other.
  5. The artwork was strategically designed to include non-visible unprinted areas, facilitating the heat welding of the banners.
  6. Heavy reinforcement was added to the banners to ensure their integrity in high wind conditions.
  7. Direct couriers were used to guarantee delivery at specified times, aligning with the client’s schedule.

The Result

The outcome was a resounding success. The banners, installed flawlessly, created a visually striking environment that enhanced the festival experience for attendees. The combination of artistic creativity and technical precision resulted in a final product that exceeded expectations.
