Mesh Direct was approached by events organisation Octagon to produce a truly unique shipping container wrap advertising solution for their client Optus. Part of Optus’ 2017 Christmas marketing campaign, we were up for the challenge of bringing their advertising ideas to life.

Optus are renowned for their ability to bring people together and have been connecting Australians together through their mobile network for years. Choosing Octagon to deliver their creative brief was a perfect match, as Octagon pride themselves on being able to deliver creative work that gains attention.

When Octagon started their work on Optus’ creative project, they came to Mesh Direct for solutions to fulfil their brief. Optus were launching their Movies Under the Stars campaign, which was a free outdoor cinema night being hosted in select rural towns around Australia. But how could they generate exciting advertising for unveiling this grand campaign? Well that’s where Mesh Direct came in to help Octagon create their elaborate idea of hiding the outdoor movie screens in large Christmas presents to be “unwrapped” on the opening night.

How we created the shipping container wrap

With any elaborate advertising idea comes a few challenges. We had to determine how we would turn a shipping container into a Christmas present – bow and all! We had to choose an appropriate material and come up with a viable design for an easy install, whilst sticking to the client’s budget. Additionally, we had to factor in the lack of time to design, manufacture and dispatch these Christmas presents to the select rural locations.

We overcame these challenges by using a 600 Denier Waterproof Oxford Fabric, which is an extra stretchy material fitted with velcro side fixings and poll pockets for an easy install. The measurements were tight to ensure that the corners would line up well and the design of the Christmas present would look phenomenal.

The final product looked outstanding and the clients were over the moon. The product was able to be installed easily with their two person installation team and Optus’ marketing campaign went off without a hitch!
