Over the span of 18 months, ICON and Mesh Direct went on a journey of 50 Shades of Vinyl Hoarding and impossible angles. ICON’s luxe Harrington Street development presented a uniquely challenging site which we were excited to sink our teeth into. This engaging project at The Old Rock’s steps and some out-of-the-box thinking resulted in an ecstatic client!

The Challenge

The challenge presented by ICON’s project was two-fold. The building plan varied enormously over the 18 months, requiring the installation and removal of ever-changing hoardings as necessary. From traditional A-class to B class hoardings, to site sheds and gates, this development has seen it all!

Moreover, the angles presented by the site were very complicated and tricky to work with, especially those involving the old rock steps. To complicate matters further, the featured artwork was extremely elaborate, adding a layer of complexity to the whole project.

The Product

Mesh Direct chose our trusty vinyl hoarding for this project, with a sail track to increase durability and stability. Vinyl is a remarkably durable material, especially when used outdoors, so it’s the perfect way to ensure excellent exposure over prolonged periods. It also has a fantastic print surface, ensuring colours are brightly and accurately rendered to generate maximum impact.

Addressing the manifold challenges of the site, we used digital measuring devices to calculate and replicate the difficult angles correctly. We then created a clear variation plan that mirrored the building project plan, enabling us to have hoarding ready-to-go as the site evolved.

The Result

What a fantastic exposure opportunity! The technical expertise of Mesh Direct’s design and install teams, combined with the careful preparation of the site and signs, made for one overjoyed client and an impactful set of banners. The clean, vibrant artwork draws passers-by into ICON’s narrative and clearly embodies the unique character of the brand and development.
